Discrete Structures
A foundational course that develops logical, mathematical, and computational reasoning skills essential for computer science.
Course Description
This course introduces fundamental concepts of discrete mathematics and their applications in computer science. It covers logic, sets, relations, functions, combinatorics, graphs, trees, and basic proof techniques. Students develop problem-solving and analytical skills through mathematical reasoning and structured approaches. The course provides a foundation for algorithms, data structures, databases, and theoretical computer science.
Course Learning Outcomes
Apply principles of mathematical logic, sets, relations, and functions to solve discrete problems.
Construct and evaluate mathematical proofs using appropriate proof techniques.
Analyze combinatorial structures and apply counting principles to computational problems.
Model and solve problems using graphs, trees, and other discrete structures.
